Sending messages with a modem through TAP protocol

Our present communication terminals on our paging nertworks support TAP. The TAP protocol (Alphanumeric input Telealocator Protocol) is used to send one or more messages through a telephone line with a modem.

It is therefore possible for users with compatible devices with this technology, such surveillance systems, telemetry systems, computers and automated equipments to send messages to your alphanumeric pager and notification of failures or events.

Here are all the needed information to properly configure a modem link with our transmission terminals:

  • Phone number : 418 868-6020
  • Serial port : (port number connected to the modem)
  • Baud rate :  1200
  • Data bits : 8
  • Stop bit : 1
  • Parity : None
  • Flow control : None
  • Maximum message length  : 160 characters ( without accent)
  • Pager number : (Example : 8627269) 7 digits maximum.

In order to ensure better reliability, we strongly recommend the use of an external modem like the USRobotics 56R Sporster ( P/N : USR5686E) with the last firmware update.

To see if your software supports the TAP protocol, please contact us or your dealer without delay.
